Evening Meditation Classes in Burton-upon-Trent
Wednesdays 19:30-21:00
Each class of the term is self-contained, so you are welcome to join at any point. Each class is followed by complimentary refreshments and the opportunity to ask questions. We also have many books and materials available to help you deepen your understanding and meditation experience through further reading. You do not need to be a Buddhist to attend, and no previous experience of meditation is required. Everybody is welcome!
Feb 7: Who can really protect us?
When our life is in danger or we are threatened or sick we usually seek refuge in the police, doctors etc. But they can provide only temporary protection. We can enjoy permanent liberation from all sufferings only by seeking refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.

In this world with all its challenges we can feel overwhelmed by the demands on our time. leaving us
feeling exhausted without much joy in our life. Through learning simple meditation techniques we can
deeply relax and discover in our own experience how developing a peaceful and positive mind helps us to overcome stress, anxiety and other negative states of mind.
Week 1: Finding Happiness
Learn how inner peace is the real source of happiness. When our mind is peaceful we can be happy
whatever our circumstances. We can develop this inner peace through very simple meditations.

Week 2: Freedom from Problems
If we respond to challenging situations with a positive mind we can transform them into opportunities for growth and development. In this way we can free ourself from feelings of depression, frustration, anxiety and stress.

Week 3: Successful Meditation Practice
To be successful in meditation practice we need a balanced approach. Learn how to practically integrate
meditation into your life, and through this bring great benefit to yourself and others.
Meditation: Determination to engage in meditation practice
Week 4: Developing a Peaceful Mind
In our busy life it is easy for negative minds to destroy our happiness. By purifying and controlling our mind we can ensure that it remains calm and happy all the time even when we face difficult external
circumstances.
Meditation: Determination to abandon negative minds
Week 5: Understanding our Mind
Understanding the nature and functions of our mind helps us to avoid suffering and find true happiness. When we realize that our mind continues into our future lives we will want to use this life to prepare for our welfare and happiness in those lives.
Meditation: Determination to purify our mind and engage in virtue.
