The Retreat Centre for the UK
Founded in 1983 by the revered meditation master Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, Tara International Kadampa Retreat Centre (Tara IKRC) stands as a source of peace and a centre for spiritual progress.
Tara IKRC offers a sanctuary where people from all walks of life can step back from our busy world and connect with deep inner peace.
As a leading retreat centre for modern Kadampa Buddhism, Tara IKRC is dedicated to sharing the timeless wisdom of Buddha’s teachings in a way that’s accessible and practical for the modern world.
By learning to integrate Kadam Dharma into our everyday experiences, we begin to transform challenges into opportunities for growth and development —as well as discover an enduring peace and happiness that radiates from within.
Through this inner transformation, we naturally become a source of inspiration and kindness for others. This is the heart of the Kadampa Buddhist way of life: personal peace for the benefit of all.
Several years ago, Venerable Geshe-la himself was delighted, commenting, 'This is wonderful' when Tara KMC transformed into an NKT International Retreat Centre, Tara IKRC, as well as the NKT Retreat Centre for the United Kingdom.
Take a look at what we have to offer at Tara International Kadampa Retreat Centre, due to the kindness of Venerable Geshe-la.
Kadampa Centres are welcome to book our space for their own Kadampa retreats:

The shrine at Tara IKRC Meditation Hall is a fully qualified Kadampa shrine.
In the centre section is Buddha Shakyamuni with Avalokiteshvara on his right and Arya Tara on his left. Either side stand stupas. In the right section as we face it are the five lineages of the Wisdom Dharma Protector. In the left section are Je Tsongkhapa with his Sons, the founder of the New Kadampa Tradition.
Modern Kadampa Buddhists rely sincerely on Je Tsongkhapa and regard their Spiritual Guide as his emanation through whom they receive special oral instructions.
Accordingly, in front of Je Tsongkhapa in the shrine there is a statue of the holy Spiritual Guide, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, flanked by Heruka and Vajrayogini, the principal Highest Yoga Tantra Deities of the tradition.
Either side, at the top of the shrine are the collected works of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, the precious scriptures of Modern Kadampa Buddhism.
