Vajrasattva is an enlightened being who is a manifestation of Buddha Vajradhara, the founder of Vajrayana Buddhism. The function of Buddha Vajrasattva is to purify living beings, to purify the impure minds and impure actions of living beings and to thereby transform living beings into completely pure beings.
As Venerable Geshe-la says: “Just by cleaning our bodies we can’t say that we are clean and pure. We need to purify ourselves to become a completely pure being. Then there is no basis for experiencing any kind of problem and suffering.”
It is recommended that retreat participants include this weekend because Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab will transmit some special teachings from Venerable Geshe-la on how to engage in a qualified purification retreat of Buddha Vajrasattva.
The Supreme Method
“Buddha taught many different methods to purify non-virtuous actions, downfalls and broken commitments, but the supreme method is the practice of meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva. This practice is a scientific method to purify our mind and transform it from an impure mind into a pure mind using Tantric technology.”
About the Great Preliminary Guides
“There are two possibilities for practisting the Preliminary Guides. One is to emphasise counting numbers of prayers of Refuge, Guru Yoga, Mandala Offerings and Vajrasattva recitations... the second possibility is to emphasise understanding the meaning and gaining special experience... and through this trying to gain actual realisations.”

Who can Practise?
Venerable Geshe-la explained: “As this sadhana was made for public benefit it is very simple and can be applied to both Lower Tantra and Highest Yoga Tantra. Thus, there are three levels: (1) according to Highest Yoga Tantra, (2) according to Lower Tantra, or (3) just simple purification practice. For this reason the sadhana is made very simple.”
Everybody is welcome to join this powerful retreat on purification - from beginners to advanced practitioners.
